From the Poelestraat to festivals and concerts
Rave Safe began after a night out in Groningen, not in a boardroom. At eighteen, Wieger Bosgraaf suffered hearing damage. Hearing protection could have helped prevent it, but he could not find an earplug that fit well and kept the music enjoyable. So he set out to find one himself.
An idea shaped in Groningen
The search for a comfortable earplug for live music became a business idea. The idea was put to the test where it mattered: during nights out.

A night out with lasting consequences
Wieger suffered hearing damage on a night out when he was eighteen. He wanted to protect his hearing without losing the joy of the music. He could not find the earplug he was looking for.
- 02 · Hanze University
From idea to working prototype
Wieger took his idea for the right festival earplug into the Business Class Entrepreneurship minor at Hanze University of Applied Sciences. During the course he developed a working prototype that people could actually wear and test.
- 03 · Poelestraat
Testing filters with people on a night out
In Groningen’s Poelestraat, people tried different music filters while they were out listening to music. The filter they liked best is still part of the Rave Safe Starter Set today.
- 04 · The first festivals
KopjeK and Paradigm
After the minor, we sold our festival earplugs from a stand at KopjeK Festival. Paradigm Festival followed. These two Groningen events helped take Rave Safe from prototype to festival crowds.
From Groningen to everywhere
Online today. Still rooted in live music.
Today, Rave Safe mainly reaches people online at ravesafe.nl. We still supply our earplugs to festivals and concerts. What began in Groningen as a personal search now helps more people enjoy live music while protecting their hearing.
